No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it.

Applications for IBNA's mentorship program is closed for 2025, and will reopen in Q1 2026

Introduction

Being a mentor or having the right mentor at the right time can be a valuable and meaningful experience. A mentorship program facilitates the opportunity for experienced people to connect with the next generation of rising executives and leaders. Mentorship can help people shape careers, handle pivots or address difficult career challenges. Every mentorship relationship is different.  When the process is done right, both mentor and mentee benefit from the experience.  Working together they can co-create a shared development journey towards a more interesting and fulfilling career path.

Who are mentors?

Effective mentors are open-minded people who have the ability to engage in productive dialogue. They demonstrate empathy, share their own experiences, and aren’t shy to tell it as it is, helping the mentee grow. To do this, both parties maintain an honest and open dialogue, which is crucial for building trust.

What do mentors Do?

Mentors empower mentees to discover their own insights and solutions for continuing their growth, developing their capabilities, or improving their performance. In the process, mentees recognize their own internal sources of creativity and productivity and identify and remove personal roadblock

How will a mentee benefit?

A mentee is an individual who receives guidance and support from a more experienced and/or knowledgable person, known as a mentor. The mentee benefits from the mentor's guidance in a specific area. Ideally mentees have at least 4-5 years of work experience, and are seeking to develop themselves to pursue growth opportunities on their current path or pivot to a new path.

“Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximize their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance, and become the person they want to be."

Eric Parsloe, the Oxford School of Coaching and Mentoring
